Phoenix Connected Systems User Group
Join Rick G. Garibay for an introduction to building service-oriented applications with Windows Communication Foundation (WCF). WCF is the premier framework for building service oriented applications in .NET 3.0 and .NET 3.5. The WCF API unifies messaging, ASMX Web Services, .NET Remoting and COM+ Enterprise Services into a single programming model that makes true service-orientation tenable.
Content, code samples and live demos will be provided to build a foundational understanding of SOA and familiarize the audience with the core concepts and techniques of WCF.

SQL Server User Group Meeting
Delivering Location Intelligence with your SQL Server 2008 Applications.
In this session, we will take a look at the comprehensive spatial support in Microsoft SQL Server 2008, enabling organizations to seamlessly consume, use, and extend location-based data through spatial-enabled applications.
The spatial support in SQL Server 2008 includes:
1. The GEOGRAPHY data type, which can be used to store geodetic spatial data .
2. The GEOMETRY data type, which is used to store planar spatial data
3. Spatial indexes, which allow us to write high-performance queries that involve spatial data.
During the presentation, we will be demoing a number of off-the-shelf and custom-written application, which illustrate how you can create location-enabled applications by combining the mapping capabilities of Virtual Earth and the spatial support in SQL Server 2008.
The presenter, Bennie Haelen, is a well respected author, blogger and presenter on many advanced Microsoft technology topics.
